Project Description:
In the middle of the Dominican Republic is one of the most amazing examples of corporate social responsibility. A community development project sponsored by the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation has been built on 46 acres of land. The project focuses on primary and secondary education, community healthcare, organic farming, sports and reforestation.

This summer the project will emphasize a large scale reforestation program in the surrounding mountains so as to assure the conservation and protection of these areas. Many of these areas are quickly become devastated due to large-scale mining operations that have taken place over the last 50 years.

Volunteers will learn about the major environmental problems today facing the Dominican Republic, and how reforestation places a critical role to the long-term sustainable development of this country. Volunteers will plant trees, assist in caring for the seedlings in the nursery, and providing education to the local communities on the importance of reforestation and environmental protection.
