 Before you embark on this amazing volunteer experience, you may feel uneasy about how you are going to finance this experience. Students, in particular, have limited resources to finance summer travel and internship experiences. Through the Ser Voluntario program, you can raise your funds.
Since 1984, the Dominican Foundation, a non-profit organization, is a 501-(c)(3) charitable tax-exempt organization Additionally, in accordance with I.R.S. guidelines, donations are fully tax deductible to the extent provided by the law. Therefore, donations you raise through friends, family or fundraising events are fully tax deductible.
You may feel uneasy about asking people for money or how exactly you can raise this money. However, most volunteers find that friends and family will be proud of your self-sacrifice and feel good knowing you are making a difference.
Believe or not, what you will find is that many people will contribute because they want to support you. While they are happy to contribute to a well-respected organization, the motivating factor in their giving is you.
Therefore, ask everyone you know. The generosity of your family, friends, co-workers and acquaintances will amaze you. People will give because you ask - it's that easy! The people you know will give because they believe in you and your passion to make a difference in the impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic.
Furthermore, once you join one of our projects, the Dominican Foundation will provide you with an official letter, indicating that you are indeed a volunteer with a description of the project you will be participating in. Additionally, we will provide you additional tips on how to fundraise from: how to write your own fundraising letter to friends and family, fundraising event suggestions, how to obtain corporate sponsors, and more!
