Project Description:
The Botanical and Archeological Gardens are being built in Bayahibe, on the southeast shores of the Dominican Republic. This area is a very well known tourist destination, famous for being environmentally friendly. Hotel owners, along with IDDI, are trying to preserve the unique animal and plant life found there. Recently, this area has also been declared as an official archeological site of Taino (pre-colonial Indian) ruins that include cave dwellings and cemeteries.

Volunteers will help educate the local population about this project, build pathways throughout the park, create park signage, assist in the identification of animal and bird species, and possibly restore some of the original Taino caves.
